IT and Security Leaders Turn to Lateral Security to Mitigate Ransomware

Two surveys conducted by VMware reveal that ransomware continues to be a significant concern for enterprises worldwide. In response, IT and security leaders increasingly invest in lateral security tools such as network segmentation, micro-segmentation, and advanced threat prevention capabilities.

The surveys also show that the number of ransomware attacks is increasing, with a 13% rise from 2020 to 2021. More than two-thirds of respondents reported experiencing at least one ransomware incident in the previous 24 months. The findings suggest that the lack of widespread deployment of lateral security tools has left gaps in protection that attackers can exploit, highlighting the need for their pervasiveness in enterprise security.

Please read our new white paper for a deeper dive into why and how CISOs and other IT and security leaders deploy lateral security tools to protect their organizations effectively.
